COMA ELECTRIQUE: COUNTER CURRENT.

Support of the subculture, free and alternatives , radios tend to disappear. Discover a little more behind the scenes.

Can you tell us about your first radio adventures?

Once upon a time, there are many moons, a young rocker who was entrusted with a noble mission for the good common of hair: program different musics on the radio ...
Thus, brandishing his bloody discs,Eddy Metal, created in late 1983 RADIO Bebop JOINVILLE (94) a program that specializes in hard-rock and heavy metal:

ROCK FORT

This program, which is the oldest and best known in the style, in the Parisian region , still held every Thursday from 19:30 to 21:00 on:

Aligre 93.1 FM (Paris / IDF)
1st Thursday of each month from 1998 to 2004, was led by Eddy and Sophie (aka Sophie La Crete, falls early in a large and big musical pot broth filled with synths and pin) for a special programming industrial / metal / gothic, all emissions are now co-run by Phil Em'All, and Boywonder Grinder with a heavy metal / trash program. In 1991, Eddy launches additional emission, accompanied by Sophie, still Aligre FM:

RIFFS DE LA NUIT.

This very eclectic show (rock alternatif, punk, hardcore, fusion, industrial, metal, gothic, electro, techno, etc.) will be proposése every Saturday from midnight until 1998. Many guests will attend:

Die Krupps, GOREFEST, NERVE, screaming tribesmen, CARNIVAL OF SHAME, CRIMSON GLORY, LOVE AND PITBULLS PEAVE, LUDWIG VON 88 JAD WIO, Treponema PAL, THE VRP, DIRTY DISTRICT, THE DOGS, THE MOUSE déglinguée, Molodoi, GOGOL 1ER, THE DEAD, THE SHERIFF, THE WAMPAS, NAKED APES, gnomes, NO ONE IS INNOCENT, nipples NOIRES, WASHINGTON DEAD CATS, BEADOCHONS, SPICY BOX, COLLAPSE, THE SALES Majesty X. SYNDICATE and more ...

In June 2004, Sophie and Eddy decide, by popular demand (and because they like it!) To reinvest the night of Saturday, the first of the month, from midnight until 3 am, still on Aligre for a new FM radio project:

LE SYNDROME MENSUEL

Devoted to the Indus, gothic, metal, techno, electro, dark-wave, punk and other alternative styles.

In October 2007, the syndrome becomes COMA ELECTRIQUE , and weekly, every Friday from 19h 30 to 21h (http://coma.electrique.free.fr site)

Is it easier to do a show today or in the early 90's?

Eddy: No, because to lead a music program, you must feed it regularly with discographic news and it is increasingly hard to obtain from the labels. On the other hand, the radio stations that broadcast programs really "independent" are increasingly rare. Aligre FM allows us to do our own programming and even managed to survive without broadcast advertising.

How have you met with Aligre FM?

Eddy: That was 1985: I've done a radio at Radio BE BOP (see history above), which closed its doors in 1985 and at that time there were many more radio stations that broadcast on FM in Paris (this was the golden age of free radio ...). I had already some experience in this field, I wanted to make the radio so as independent (Aligre is always a independant radio) and I ran to them to offer a program of testing which they agreed.

What are your favorite bands?

Eddy: There are too many! quickly, I will mention LED ZEPPLIN, MOTORHEAD, NINE INCH NAILS BERURIER NOIR, LUDWIG VON 88, CHEMICAL BROTHERS, JOY DIVISION, MINISTRY, JUDAS PRIEST, SISTERS OF MERCY and full many more!

How are you enter in the dark movement?

Eddy: we are never enter in a musical: we wish to remain independent pendants (we are still volunteer by choice) and we are not any more électro dark, we reject the labels! our musical tastes are wide tress, our broadcast programming of both the industryy the gothic, electro, techno, rock, punk, metal etc. ...

As you have said, you have several programs before Coma Electrique. Why have they stopped?

Eddy: the issue that we are holding now is the logical continuation of our previous programs: in the 80s / early 90s I was still connected to hard-rock (while listening to other musical styles, because I always been open musically speaking: in the late 70s / early 80s, I am including the first records obtained from THE CURE, REM ...). Then I left the place with two friends to continue to lead ROCK FORT and I, in turn, created the show RIFFS DE LA NUIT which had a more eclectic programming on which to work that Sophie continues to co-host to this day ... We have arrested RIFFS DE LA NUIT in 1998 because this issue was held every night from Saturday (midnight to dawn, or almost!) and that after September years of animation, we start to feel some fatigue, after having invited dozens of bands spent hundreds of titles, spent many sleepless nights it was necessary that we "means" after all these years behind microphones. .. But, having always wanted to program music programs, we are co-hosting revenues ROCK FORT once a month (with an eclectic program again) pending create LE SYNDROME MENSUEL in 2004 turned into a COMA ELECTRIQUE (weekly early evening) in October 2007, following the success of the syndrome as the virus of the radio up and we had that many listeners complained of the time RIFFS DE LA NUIT, we are aware that Aligre is an"exceptional" radio and today we need to continue to help by participating with programs that hopes really high quality and "Indie" ... We may as well ask in our show, a young band just self-produce his 1st EP an international band known as NEW MODEL ARMY or LAIBACH, everything depends on opportunities and our time because we work so employed outside of our radio broadcasts.

These emissions were they the same style of music?

Eddy: A ROCK FORT part that was equitable, and still is, 100% hard-rock programming, on the RIFFS DE LA NUIT, LE SYNDROME MENSUEL, COMA ELECTRIQUE and have always been highly variable but have evolved over the years .. . it is now more electro or techno a few years ago for example ...

Can you represent what kinds of music you broadcast in Coma Electrique?

Eddy: industrial, gothic, metal, punk, rock, electro, techno ...

Regarding the guests, how do you do, depending on opportunities or you dotes "I'd like to interview this band so I do"?

Eddy: for interviews, we first try to stick to current music (according to our criteria): when a band (french or often) has released a disc that we appreciate, we will contact to come in the promotion if available (we avoid making recorded interviews, we prefer to live interviews on radio, it's always fun). Sometimes, these are bands that we have received that we connect to other bands (17 BABEL recently that made us discover NO TEARS) and, from time to time, some opportunities may arise when as a member of LAIBACH promo came to Paris and that the label of the bands has contacted us to see if we could interview him. We do interview with bands that we appreciate!

And these bands is that they ask you for money for the interview or not?

Eddy: We're volunteer, radio is associative, with no advertising (thus with very little money to survive), no bands has never asked to be pay for his passage, we would have immediately refused! even for the "stars" like Trent Reznor and Nick Cave! Note that the bands are interviewed at the same time their "promo", so why pay?

What do you think about download?

Eddy: in my case, I find that the download is a good thing for us radio hosts (which do not suffer from pressure imposed on programming) that are preparing our own: sometimes it allows us to record some titles of bands we have not always obtained there discs (not necessarily their fault, but because of the labels are reluctant to send their news ...). But we do not often download the sound is often worse than on a CD, for example ... anyway, we prefer to program in priority bands and labels who make the effort to send us their discs, discs in a game for the listeners.

Thank you!
